We are facing challenging and uncertain times.
On the first day of Donald Trump’s return to power, he took more than 200 executive actions – including signing Executive Orders that attempt to target and violate the Constitutional rights of immigrant communities, continue the United States’ complicity in Israel’s war crimes, and attack our LGBTQ+ community members.
This is only the beginning of a long four years of attacks on our fundamental rights, the safety of our loved ones and community members, and the progress we’ve fought so hard for. Now is the time for us to organize like never before, show up to protect and defend our communities, and continue to build power for our collective movement.
Authoritarian regimes like the Trump Administration count on us to cede our power voluntarily so they can continue to advance their extreme attacks and dangerous agendas without opposition – we can’t give up any power without a fight. As Timothy Snyder, author of On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century reminds us, “don’t obey in advance”.
Below, we’ve compiled essential information, resources, tools, and trainings to support our communities as we navigate these escalating attacks on our rights here at home and across the globe. Together, we will keep each other safe, raise our voices to demand change, and send a resounding message to those in power that we are stronger than their attacks.
Know Your Rights
Understanding and asserting our rights is one of the most powerful tools we have to defend ourselves and our communities against threats and overreach from ICE, law enforcement, and other oppressive institutions.
You can order or print your own Know Your Rights Red Cards from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (available in Spanish, English and 14 other languages) by clicking here. These cards contain critical information about your rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution, and can serve as an important resource to help you and your loved ones assert your rights and defend yourself in many situations, including if ICE agents visit your home.
Our friends at Somos Un Pueblo Unido have also compiled the important Know Your Rights Guide below to help community members understand how to protect themselves when dealing with immigration or the police. This resource is also available to share in Spanish on Instagram here.

Report ICE Sightings
You can utilize the JuntosSeguros website to help keep your community safe by reporting ICE sightings in your neighborhood. JuntosSeguros is a completely free, online resource – if you’d like to report an ICE sighting, you’ll be asked to enter the address of the location at which the sighting occurred.
You can also enter your zip code into the search bar at the top right-hand side of the page to search for any recently-reported ICE sightings in your area.
Learning for Activism Class
Allegra Love, a lawyer and educator in Santa Fe will also be holding a free “Learning for Activism” class on immigration law and policy in English for allies and activists on February 1, 2025 from 9:00 am-4:30 pm at St. Bede’s Church, 550 W. San Mateo Rd in Santa Fe.
Birthright Citizenship Executive Order
On Monday, January 20th, Donald Trump signed an Executive Order attempting to end birthright citizenship. Trump’s recent action is a direct and blatant attempt to violate the Constitution and the civil rights of our communities, directly conflicting with the language of the 14th Amendment and over a century of legal precedent.
Attorney Generals from twenty-two states (including the State of New Mexico) are currently suing the Trump Administration to block this dangerous and unconstitutional Executive Order. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and immigrants’ rights advocates are also suing the Trump Administration.
United We Dream, the largest immigrant youth-led organization in the nation, recently published their analysis of the Trump Administration’s anti-immigrant Executive Orders with information on how we can fight back to protect our communities. You can view their post via Instagram here.
Solidarity with Palestine
Despite the long-awaited ceasefire agreement reached on January 15th, Israeli troops have escalated violence in the occupied West Bank, setting fire to homes and vehicles, restricting Palestinian’s freedom of movement, and injuring community members.
Meanwhile, the people of Palestine are still experiencing the devastating impacts of Israel's 15-month assault. According to a report from Democracy Now, more than 20,000 children became orphans, losing one or both of their parents. 88% of Gaza’s infrastructure was destroyed by 100,000 metric tons of explosives. Civil defense workers are still uncovering the bodies of thousands of people buried beneath the rubble. Israel’s war crimes have also resulted in tragic environmental impacts – polluting the air with chemicals from weapons, contaminating the water, and destroying the land.
We continue to stand in solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters as they experience ongoing violence and return to the rubble that remains of their homes after their forced displacement, and we are still deeply outraged and heartbroken that our tax dollars have funded a genocide that has resulted in the deaths of more than 47,000 people, including more than 17,000 children.
In the United States’ latest act of complicity, on Monday, January 20th, Donald Trump signed an Executive Order to reverse sanctions on violent Israeli settlement groups in the West Bank previously imposed by President Biden. As the U.S. continues to enable and fund these atrocities, we have a profound responsibility to continue to raise our voices for change and stand together in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Film Screening: From Ground Zero
Our friends at Northern New Mexico Showing Up For Racial Justice (NNM SURJ) are hosting an Opening Day screening of From Ground Zero, a powerful film on Gaza, followed by a panel and Q&A at the Violet Crown Cinema today, Friday, January 24th at 6:50 pm.

“Shortlisted for an Oscar, From Ground Zero brings together short films from 22 Palestinian filmmakers living through genocide in Gaza, revealing stories beyond the headlines. Launched by Rashid Masharawi, a renowned Palestinian filmmaker, the initiative was born against the backdrop of conflict and aims to provide a platform for artists to express themselves through their craft.
Through a blend of animation, documentary, and fiction, the collection of short films creates a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit. This film serves as a remarkable reflection of how art can thrive even in the darkest times, showcasing the enduring spirit and creativity that emerge amid ongoing devastation.”
The film will continue to play at the Violet Crown Cinema from January 24th-January 30th, and we hope you can join NNM SURJ for their opening day screening and Q&A!

Orden Ejecutiva Sobre la Ciudadanía por Derecho de Nacimiento
El lunes 20 de enero, Donald Trump firmó una orden ejecutiva para eliminar la ciudadanía por derecho de nacimiento. Esta acción es un intento claro de violar la Constitución y los derechos civiles de nuestras comunidades, contradiciendo el texto de la Enmienda 14 y más de un siglo de precedentes legales.
Los fiscales generales de veintidós estados (incluido el Estado de Nuevo México) están demandando actualmente a la Administración Trump para bloquear esta Orden Ejecutiva peligrosa e inconstitucional. La Unión Americana de Libertades Civiles (ACLU) y defensores de los derechos de los inmigrantes también están demandando a la Administración Trump.

Es fundamental que todas las personas, independientemente de su estatus migratorio, conozcan y ejerzan sus derechos. Tener esta información no solo puede marcar una gran diferencia en momentos de incertidumbre, sino que también empodera a las comunidades para actuar con confianza y seguridad.

Solidaridad con Palestina
A pesar del largamente esperado acuerdo de alto el fuego alcanzado el 15 de enero, las tropas israelíes han intensificado la violencia, incendiando viviendas y vehículos, restringiendo la libertad de circulación de los palestinos e hiriendo a miembros de la comunidad.
Mientras tanto, el pueblo palestino sigue sufriendo los devastadores efectos de los 15 meses de asalto israelí. Según un informe de Democracy Now, más de 20,000 niños se quedaron huérfanos al perder a uno o a ambos progenitores. El 88% de la infraestructura de Gaza fue destruida por 100,000 toneladas métricas de explosivos. Los trabajadores de la defensa civil siguen descubriendo los cadáveres de miles de personas enterradas bajo los escombros. En el último acto de complicidad de Estados Unidos, el lunes 20 de enero, Donald Trump firmó una Orden Ejecutiva para revertir las sanciones a los violentos grupos de asentamientos israelíes en Cisjordania impuestas anteriormente por el presidente Biden. Dado que Estados Unidos sigue permitiendo y financiando estas atrocidades, tenemos la profunda responsabilidad de seguir alzando nuestras voces en favor del cambio y unirnos en solidaridad con el pueblo palestino.
