Vittoria Judy

YUCCA Program Coordinator in Training

She/Her

Vittoria Judy (she/her) is a Youth Organizer based on the stolen Tiwa Land we now call Albuquerque, raised alongside her older sister by her wonderful mother with support from her Grandfather and late Nana. Her family coming from Rural Texas and Ohio, she identifies as a multiracial Afro-Latina. From a very young age she was a curious little cat, always asking questions leading her to realize the power that’s held in stories and knowledge. She always challenged authority and pushed against the dominant narrative. During her middle school years she started becoming more socially aware, she paid attention as movements were being organized, and was questioning more. Challenging her own assumptions as she saw how our pleas for equity and justice were ignored and how our government was formed off of colonialist ideals and systems of oppression; promoting structural, institutional racism, internalized oppression and forced assimilation on BIPOC and other marginalized communities. She saw how discrimination in forms of racism, sexism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, anti-semitism, xenophobia, and classism, became more normalized within the dominant culture again, in turn pulling us farther from a equitable and just society.

She was a Freshman in high school when Trump got impeached, the Covid-19 pandemic started, we had a global recession, unemployment skyrocketed, the BLM movement was fueled by George Floyd’s passing; She was paying attention as the violence of our world intensified, her own personal experiences and stories she heard growing up made this fight very personal to her in a way where she felt she had no choice but to engage. She has a mentor that connected her with Generation Justice, she engaged in their Leaders for Change fellowship both 2022 and 2023 receiving trainings from organizations, community leaders, elders of the movement, and government officials; which is how she initially connected with YUCCA.

She added a lot of heart to the work having the opportunity to cultivate interpersonal communication, personal narrative and narrative shift, assisting with radio, presenting at conferences like facing race race forward, social media curation, public health training, etc. She started with YUCCA’s fellowship in summer of 2024, getting nominated to steering committee the following September focusing on relationship building, media, and policy. Vittoria is currently a part time Coordinator in Training for YUCCA. She’s very grateful to have found such a rewarding career and the opportunity to act surrounded by community; constantly admired by their practice of healing, determination, compassion, their willingness and spirit to “ Stand up, fight back” and force their voices to be heard by those currently in power. Her focus in this movement is Social Justice and its interconnectedness/intersectionality. She’s passionate about what the future COULD be recognizing each individuals importance and potential.

“I believe one of the things that pushes me is our connectedness and having empathy for others. I won’t let these stories and experiences be normalized, we need to be progressing not regressing. The future generations deserve better, they deserve a world where hope is abundant, where they can be healthy, safe, fed, supported, happy, knowledgeable and just be, they shouldn’t have to fight this hard. I can’t sit on the sidelines and wait for hope to come and change occur, I can’t wait for our leaders to finally step out of greed and individuality, I can’t wait for a movement 'superhero'. We have to expect better and demand better not settling until it we create the world we want to see. I’m determined to always stand in solidarity and be an advocate or a voice for those trying to figure out how to survive in a system not built for them, those too afraid to be heard or those ignored. I want to be a resource and tool for the community to get real change but, If nothing else I am a Safe Space.”

Vittoria is dedicated to this fight of good vs evil, dismantling systems of oppression and holding those keeping the systems in place accountable. We aren’t fighting each other - we’re fighting for each other. The push for real justice and equity is here.
